2019 F3S JET NATS- Mountain City Airport, Tennessee
2019 NATS Report, by: MATT BALAZS
The 2019 Jet Nationals were held at an absolutely stunning airport in Mountain City, TN – nestled in a small valley between the rolling mountains. The wind right down the runway, and temperatures in the low 70’s to mid-80’s provided a great place to fly for a few days in the summer.
22 pilots were preregistered. Unfortunately, several people had issues with their equipment before the contest and had to drop out. We ended up flying the event with 10 pilots. Ron Shirley flew in from Texas to help Glen Shepherd and also to judge at the event. Thanks also to Bill Higgins Jr. for all his help and drone photography. The results are below.
From $300 to $30K, everything was flown and it was really great to see all different aircraft at this event. Variations ranged from some of the most advanced sport jets like the CARF Mephisto to the absolutely stunning Fei Bao Hawker Hunter, performed flawlessly flying the sequences. It was an amazingly fun weekend and we all had a great time and learned a lot. The local folks all came out to watch. We didn’t have anyone that wanted to fly the freestyle but we did some demos in the afternoon for the spectators.
