2021 F3S JET NATS- Johnson County Airport, Tennessee
2021 NATS Report, by: Wayne Matthews
Despite the COVID implications, the 2021 Jet Nationals was held at the previous NATS (2019) event site in Tennessee, on August 26-29, 2021. The Johnson County Airport provided a beautiful, serene venue, with a backdrop of mountains and sunny skies throughout our time there. The airport provided us with a safe & secure hangar for overnight storage/charging and also parking for pilots who had motor homes. It certainly was an outstanding spot for our event and pilots enjoyed themselves tremendously.
Again, we had 22 pilots who had registered to attend. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and a variety of reasons, we only had 10 showing up to compete in 5 classes. We did have one pilot coming all the way from Jamaica to fly with us (Deryck Taylor). Archie Stafford was the Event Director and since the temperature sensor gave out on my turbine the day of practice, I helped out wherever I was needed for the event.
The full 4 days of competition was intense and the pilots stayed focused throughout. There was an on-site caterer who supplied breakfast and lunch, so there was no need to leave the area for meals. The beautiful trophies were supplied by John Bradley of Athens Trophy Shop in Athens Georgia.
We all had a great time there and we look forward to what the 2022 contest season will bring.
